Often considered a tiresome burden, music theory is to music what grammar is to language. It is a tool, a code that allows us to understand how our language works. Whether you're using words or notes, it's the same! This is why it is important to learn music theory pragmatically, keeping in mind that it is here to help us understand different musical languages, not at all to impose strict rules. In fact, it would be unthinkable to learn the grammar of a language without ever seeing its relevance in everyday practice! About me: As a 25 year old pianist / drummer / composer / sound engineer / electronic producer / DJ, I offer my help to learn music theory and solfeggio, both in harmony and rhythm. Currently a 3rd year student in Sound at INSAS, I studied musicology at ULB, and I practice music on a daily basis, whether as a pianist (improvisation, composition, learning jazz and classical pieces) or as a sound engineer and beatmaker. Some information about my musical background: - currently in my last year of piano studies (academy of Etterbeek) - member of the jazz ensemble of the Forest academy (2nd year) - regular concerts and composition in MAO (computer assisted music) for 7 years (mainly hip-hop) - 7 years of private drum lessons + Brazilian percussion lessons (batucada) - completed musical training (Etterbeek Academy, 4 years) - 3 years of music writing and analysis courses in academy - solo DJ as well as for a hip-hop group - recording and mixing as a sound engineer as part of my studies and outside: music, cinema, sound creation, etc The course: Depending on your wishes and / or needs, we can orient the course towards different facets of music theory. Whether it's harmony, rhythm, analysis or sight-reading; whether your objective is knowledge, composition, improvisation or the practice of an instrument, I can adapt to you! The first lesson is usually dedicated to assessing the student's level of knowledge and skills, and to establish together a draft programme for the following lessons. The idea is to progress at your own pace, in a good mood! This course is mainly intended for people starting out in music. I teach for all levels, from children starting from zero to students who want to prepare certifications at the Conservatories, passing through amateurs or simply curious of any age. I firmly believe in the importance of knowing how to read music and this is exactly what I teach first, obviously adapting the method to the age of my students: knowing how to read music is knowing one more language, which, if learned well, won’t ever be forgotten (like riding a bicycle!) and it is an invaluable wealth. Starting from that point I teach the position of the hand, the arm and the whole body at the piano, the fundamentals of the piano technique (giving great importance to the percussive movement of the finger and the distribution of weight), the understanding of musical language, the expression of the personality through the keyboard, the search for touch and knowledge of piano repertoire.

Welcome to my piano teaching studio! I am a professional pianist offering private piano and theory lessons for students of all levels. As a pianist with over 14 years of teaching experience in Europe and the USA, as well as over 23 years of playing/performing, I enjoy motivating my students with music of their own preferred style and interest, whether that be classical or contemporary. My main goal is to promote a positive experience and love for music-making during the learning process. If the student is interested in a more structured approach, I guide preparation for grades 1-8 of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) piano and music theory exams where my students consistently receive highest marks. I also have successful experience preparing students for conservatory entrance auditions, masterclasses, and competitions in the Europe, the USA, India, and Canada. We have class concerts at Pianos Maene for interested students twice per year. I am happy to provide either a more relaxed or a serious approach to learning piano, we simply need to discuss the personal goals and preferences of each student. My own studies are as follows: I have obtained two postgraduate performance degrees at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp: "Concertsoloist" in Piano Performance and "Chamber Music” (under the guidance of esteemed professor Sergei Edelmann). Prior to this, I received my Bachelor and Masters degrees in Piano Performance/Music from the University of Minnesota - Minneapolis (with Prof. Lydia Artymiw) and Texas Christian University, Fort Worth (with Dr. Tamas Ungar). My experience includes collaboration with many different instrumentalists and singers, performing as a soloist and collaborative member in several orchestras, and receiving top prizes in several competitions. While maintaining my performance and recording career in Belgium at present, I am developing my private music studio in central Antwerp and look forward to meeting new students.

Fully online piano assessment and focused follow-up lessons in English for serious students who want a clear professional view of their current level, their main technical-musical bottleneck and the next practical steps. This is not a casual lesson. It is a structured professional assessment for students who practise regularly but do not fully understand why their playing still does not sound free, stable, expressive or convincing. I am a Russian-trained concert pianist and piano educator with more than 20 years of teaching experience, international performance background, recordings, masterclasses and academic-level teaching experience. I teach piano as an integrated system: sound, movement, rhythm, phrasing, memory, musical understanding and intelligent practice. During the assessment, I look at the student’s playing as a complete musical and technical system: — sound and tone quality — body coordination and technical freedom — rhythm, pulse and inner stability — phrasing and musical direction — articulation and dynamics — reading and understanding the score — voice balance, harmony, form and musical logic — memory and reliability — practice method and self-checking skills After the session, the student receives a written summary with the main observations, the central bottleneck and a concrete practice plan for the next stage of work. Possible formats: 1. Piano Assessment / Piano Reset 60 minutes online + written summary with a concrete practice plan 2. Piano Assessment + 4 focused follow-up lessons After the assessment, we can continue with 4 online lessons focused on improving the main bottleneck: reading, rhythm, sound, movement, phrasing, memory or practice strategy. Format: assessment session + 4 focused online lessons This format can be especially useful during the summer break, before the new school year, before an exam, recording or performance, after a long break from piano, or when the student feels that regular practice is not bringing the expected progress. The goal is not simply to add more pieces or more practice time. The goal is to understand what exactly is blocking progress and to build a clearer, more effective way of working.
