I have just begun an MSc in Data Analytics and I am looking to tutor Maths not only to help support my studies but also to fulfil a long held desire of mine to help children learn Maths. I love Mathematics and have always had a desire to teach it and bring it alive to those either wanting to know more or to help those having difficulty bedding down some of the concepts. Having had some tutoring myself during my Physics A level I have first-hand experience seeing how much value the additional support of a Tutor can add to a student's existing classroom knowledge. From the perspective of a teacher / tutor - I have two younger half siblings that have had difficulty with Mathematics growing up but have always enjoyed sitting down and helping the grapple different topics they came across in various homework exercises. I find it hugely rewarding the moment you see concepts 'click' with those studying the topic. Although I have not formally worked in a tutoring capacity previously, I believe I possess a number of qualities which make me well suited to teaching Maths. My career path to date training to become an Actuary has seen me continue to use and develop my numeric knowledge, particular in the field of statistics. My roles in industry too have developed my communication. Working as an Investment Analyst in my first job particularly gave me the opportunity to improve explaining technical concepts to non-technical audiences as I would often have communicate complex Investment Strategy options to the trustees of pension schemes, many of whom would not have a numerical background. Lastly, I think my personality lends itself well to tutoring. Those familiar with any of the 'colour profiling' personality evaluation exercises available might recognise me as an 'Earth Green' type. To those not familiar, the dominant traits that best describe an Earth green are patience, supportive and considerate - all of which I hope I can leverage to help students overcome any difficulties they are having with the topic. French can be hard to learn especially if you don't have some motivation to do it. This is why I think that helping people learning it can make people appreciate the process of learning. I also did a Scientifique Baccalauréat (Math, Physics and Chemistry) and I study Economics and Management, I'll be able to teach Math until A-Levels. Hi, I'm Eman and I just finished studying A-Level Maths, Further Maths, Computer Science and AEA Mathematics from City and Islington College and I will be studying MEng Mathematical Computation at UCL from September 2021. Ever since first being taught maths and sciences I have had a passion for them and love learning more and being able to understand interesting topics. I achieved 14 A* grades at SSC ( Bangladesh's Secondary Completion Qualification, Homologous to GCSE), 9 in GCSE Mathematics, 7 in GCSE English Language, and D*D* in BTEC L2 Computing (Equivalent with 4A* in GCSE) therefore know what is required of students to succeed and have plenty of important revision tips that I want to pass on. I also studied the new A-level curriculum so have up-to-date subject knowledge. Often the maths and computer science feature concepts that are daunting and challenging to understand at first, but through considered and targeted explanations, repetition of crucial ideas (particularly by linking ideas across subjects, one of my favorite revision techniques at GCSE), and consolidation of ideas using past exam questions it is possible to gain a deep understanding that will serve you well through final year exams and beyond. Learning is a unique process and everybody has different ways of learning best, therefore I will aim to adapt tutorials to meet the needs of a particular student. I will always ensure that prior to the tutorial I know what topics the student wishes to cover so that I can prepare materials (e.g. source appropriate past exam questions) and consult the relevant exam board specification so that we cover everything they need to know - there will be no nasty surprises in the exam. A typical tutorial would have the following structure: A starter activity to recap what we covered in the previous week, helping the student to revise as we go along. An explanation of the key ideas we are covering, and a check of how much the student already knows. Then comes real learning! The majority of the lesson will be devoted to covering the necessary content at a pace and level appropriate to the student. Usually, I will verbally explain the topic in an informal conversation with the student before writing notes onto the board for them to copy down (that way they have something to refer back to later). Past exam paper questions as practice. And lastly, if appropriate, how these ideas link to other things they may have covered or are yet to cover. But most importantly, I aim to create a relaxed and fun environment for learning where the student can feel confident in their own abilities and will enjoy the learning process!

I enjoy teaching Mathematics and Physics. I teach any age up to GCSE, including 11+ and Common Entrance. I focus on gaining a core understanding of principles rather than memorisation or rote learning. I like to get to know the student and make the lessons fun for both of us! I currently have students in primary school, KS3 and GCSE and have a lot of experience tutoring. I am a second year Design Engineering student at Imperial College London and achieved a 2:1 for the previous academic year. I achieved an A* in Mathematics, A in Physics and A* in Art at A level. I have experience in teaching mathematics and science from IGCSE, GCSE and A-Level all the way up to the challenging I am very familiar with the GCSE syllabus having gone through the O’Levels and A’Levels in Singapore myself. When teaching mathematics and science, I believe that doing a lot of practice is the best way to learn; it’s how I’ve always studied the subject, from GCSE all the way up to university level. I understand the common issues students have with mathematics and science at every level, and I tailor my teaching to the needs of each individual student. When teaching GCSE and A level, I like to first go over any conceptual issues students may have, before moving on to exercises. Going through examples can often uncover misunderstandings, as well as provide clarity, and hence a balance of both is required. I work with a combination of weak and strong students from many well-known schools in Singapore and also international schools in London. I am keen to provide you with lessons that are highly personalised to your ability and goals – just let me know which areas you'd like to work on! Some students come with an idea of which topics they would like to improve on, in which case we can work on any theory questions they have and go through example problems they may be struggling with. For other students, it may be best to start with the exercises, and use these to spark discussion and teaching when we encounter difficulties. Often, it is a combination of time spent grappling with the content/theory and working through example questions together that helps the most!
