Composition techniques: Each class I give small composition tasks, things that can be developed in the time you have available between classes, where we will explore different composition techniques and how they can be applied within the musical language that you want to develop. Creativity: We work here in two ways, the first is on a project you are working on, for example a piece for your own instrument, a project for a competition or entrance exam, a song, etc. The second way is through improvisation exercises on your instrument. I am a professional freelance opera singer currently performing with English Touring Opera and the National Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Company, among others. I trained at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, have been singing my whole life, and was brought up by two professional orchestral musicians with a strong background in music theory, sight-singing, and aural training. I offer singing lessons to all ages and abilities, as well as music theory to beginners and intermediates (up to Grade 5). I firmly believe that singing is for everyone, and that above all else it should be fun! I have experience in teaching primary and secondary age children and young people, as well as adults up to 80 years old across a range of genres including musical theatre, jazz, choral, and opera! I work with my students to help them set goals, improve their vocal stamina and awareness of vocal health, build technique, enjoy the sensation of singing and performing, and most importantly gain confidence. My name is Sachi, I'm an American-trained flautist, and I'd like to make learning an instrument accessible, fun, and easy for musicians of all ages and abilities. I am a 3rd year student at the University of Bath, but I first picked up music when I was 12. Growing up in America, I had the opportunity to participate in marching band, concert bands, wind ensembles, and orchestras. However, it was only when I began taking private lessons that I realized how incredible and transformative music can be. My lessons instilled a sense of discipline, confidence, and love for the arts that I would now like to share with you. This course begins with the basics, but can be adjusted for whatever level you are at! Items on the course include: - Flute set up: hand position and stability - Beginner's guide to reading music - Sight-reading - Tone and the 'sweet spot' - Breathing - From Classical to Baroque to Modern and everything in between! - Flute music from around the world - Extended techniques (singing and playing, harmonics) - ABRSM prep If you have any questions feel free to get in touch.
