About Me

Ich heisse Maxence. Vielleicht bin ich Ihr nächster Begleiter in Deinem Gesangslernen.
Ich bin französischer Herkunft, lebe aber seit mehr als 5 Jahren in Basel.

Ich habe an der Hochschule für Musik Basel einen Master in Gesangspädagogik gemacht. Ich bin immer neugierig darauf, neues Stimmpotential zu entdecken. Gemeinsam mit Dir möchte ich nach einem besseren Singgefühl, nach Kreativität und Musikalität suchen. Ich hoffe, ich kann dich bald kennenlernen und die Arbeit mit dir beginnen.

Maxence ist in Nordfrankreich geboren und dort aufgewachsen. Mit 6 Jahren begann er seine musikalische Ausbildung am Klavier und studierte anschliessend Klavier und Literatur in Paris. Seine ersten Gesangserfahrungen sammelte er im Chor (Choir of the Paris Orchestra und Choir of the Louvre musicians), bevor er sich dem Sologesang widmete: seit 2015 studiert er an der der Musik-Akademie Basel bei Prof. Isolde Siebert und schloss im Juni 2018 seinen Bachelor in klassischem Gesang ab. Er ist ein passionierter Liedsänger und nahm an verschiedenen Meisterkursen mit Schwerpunkt Lied teil, so ua mit Tenor Werner Güra. Das Oratorium ist auch Teil seines Repertoires (zb Vesperae solennes de Confessore, Krönungsmesse von Mozart mit dem Friborg Chamber Orchestra).

I am singer, classically trained with a main focus in early music and voice embodiment. I also studied recorder, clarinet and musicology.

As a teacher and performer, I focus on a joyful, healthy and technically skilled way of singing. I focus not only on the sound production, but also on body posture, relaxation and organic movement. An happy and relaxed body creates a beautiful, natural and relaxed sound.
We choose the repertoire together and work together towards developing your voice, your expressivity, text and style interpretation at your fullest potential.

I have experience teaching several music genres, from classical, jazz, pop, folk music and even extended vocal techniques like growls. I am quite open to the students requests and always willing to research deeper and expand my vocal vocabulary.

Singing is a vulnerable, intimate and also communal act. Sadly, our modern world has mystified it into the sphere of the "born-talent" ideal, which often scares people from even trying to sing. I find this phenomena a cruel and exclusivist perspective on singing.

I consider singing an universal right, and we should all be unashamed of singing, be it in your bathtub, while walking on the street, in a dinner with friends, or in the next open stage at your local bar.

We all have the capacity and the right to sing.
If anybody has told you that you can't sing, they were wrong. Like any skill, you can learn it.
And if you sing, you, your body, and your soul will be happier.

One of my students once said: "You come for a singing lesson and you discover something new about who you are". I think that would summarize well the space I try to create in my lessons.

Singer trained at the Schola Cantorum of Basel (from medieval chant to the 20th century), I offer a general singing course: basic vocal technique (posture, breath work, sound work), discovery of different repertoires (depending on the student's tastes; pop repertoires also possible), work on interpretation. I can accompany the student on the keyboard. I work with people of all ages, beginners or not. The goal is to progress in a climate of trust.

You can also contact me for music theory lessons only (reading notes and rhythm, deciphering, notions of music theory, ear work).

I finally give piano lessons to beginners.

Everybody can sing!
In my classes I will guide you to find your own voice, through vocal exercises and movements, self-perception and listening. My desire is that the student enjoys his or her voice and singing without hurting or using extra tension and specially that he/she has the tools to know the instrument, so to know yourself.
In addition to vocal technique, I offer interpretation tools and music theory through repertoire work (songs) so that the student can interpret different styles and sing along with other musicians.
I studied vocal technique with teachers from the Rabine Institute in Germany and I have also taken a lot of courses of dance, theater and Alexander Technique that I use for my lessons in order to have an holistic approach of the voice and our body as an instrument. Let's have fun!

I help pupils to develop the ability to read and sight sing music and, to develop and expand their hearing and intonation skills.
I adapt my lessons to the student's needs and level but I'm also happy to provide a more structured program to prepare exams and auditions for music students wishing to enter a conservatory or music academy (solfége, reading, writing, dictation and basic harmony) .
