Voice lessons for everyone - Singing is a universal human right
From 61.27 £ /h
I am singer, classically trained with a main focus in early music and voice embodiment. I also studied recorder, clarinet and musicology.
As a teacher and performer, I focus on a joyful, healthy and technically skilled way of singing. I focus not only on the sound production, but also on body posture, relaxation and organic movement. An happy and relaxed body creates a beautiful, natural and relaxed sound.
We choose the repertoire together and work together towards developing your voice, your expressivity, text and style interpretation at your fullest potential.
I have experience teaching several music genres, from classical, jazz, pop, folk music and even extended vocal techniques like growls. I am quite open to the students requests and always willing to research deeper and expand my vocal vocabulary.
Singing is a vulnerable, intimate and also communal act. Sadly, our modern world has mystified it into the sphere of the "born-talent" ideal, which often scares people from even trying to sing. I find this phenomena a cruel and exclusivist perspective on singing.
I consider singing an universal right, and we should all be unashamed of singing, be it in your bathtub, while walking on the street, in a dinner with friends, or in the next open stage at your local bar.
We all have the capacity and the right to sing.
If anybody has told you that you can't sing, they were wrong. Like any skill, you can learn it.
And if you sing, you, your body, and your soul will be happier.
One of my students once said: "You come for a singing lesson and you discover something new about who you are". I think that would summarize well the space I try to create in my lessons.

About Me
I am Joana, from Portugal. I am a singer, recorder player, clarinetist and musicologist. I also have some curiosity about frame drums and like to play it to relax. Although I am a multi-instrumentalist, singing is my main craft. I love the voice and all its mysteries, and I am constantly learning new things about it.
I love music in general, which means that in a day I could be listening from Bach to Mumford and Sons, Epica to Ella Fitzgerald, Debussy to Swedish folk music and even old ladies singing traditional songs from Portugal. I believe music serves to express our deepest emotions and to enjoy life in a smoother and more meaningful way. This is what I search in all my musical projects and what I aim with my playing.
Other than music, I love dancing, hiking in nature, anything to do with psychology, the mind and human nature. I am also into topics related to sustainability, nature and living off-grid. Last but not least, I love slow traveling, mostly getting to know lost villages and landscapes in the middle of nowhere.
I also love teaching and by doing that I feel often at the most comfortable place of my own self. I love to share my passion for music and the voice with other people and help them discovering their talents.
