My music class varies in instrument, genre/style of music and level of musicality and is dependent on the individual who would like lessons. I teach face-to-face and online lessons. I tailor music music theory lessons around the student and their needs as I find a student-centric method always cultivates an enriching musical experience for the student and myself. I take great interest in understanding a student's unique goals, learning styles and preferences. I recognise that each student has a unique learning style; some students thrive with a structured approach, while others may prefer a more creative and exploratory method. By adapting my teaching techniques, and tailoring resources specific to the individual, I ensure you will feel completely comfortable and thoroughly enjoy your music theory lessons.

I create lesson plans and realistic goals that encourage students to reach their full potential. I keep detailed records of the student's progress, including milestones achieved, areas for improvement, and practice strategies. I believe it is vital to regularly share this information with the student and their parents in order to reinforce their growth and motivate them to continue their progress with music theory.

My teaching approach has the potential to enhance your music knowledge and skills in an impressive amount of time, making your music theory lessons very rewarding and worthwhile!

I love teaching any level at any age, as I believe music should be explored and enjoyed by everyone. Everyone has the ability to become a strong music theorist!
Extra information
Online lessons: Make sure the room in which you are using to hold the lesson has enough space for you to stand up and move around in.
Face-to-face lessons: Make sure you bring a form of equipment, whether that be phone, tablet, laptop or pen and paper, to take notes on. As well as this, a folder to keep pieces of paper and music sheets in would be very beneficial.

About Me
Across the past 4 years I have gained experience teaching music theory to students aged between 8 - 55, from beginners to upper-intermediates, and have also helped students work towards grades and exams between 1 - 7. Specifically in the last two years, I have gained a lot of experience teaching online.

During my time at university, I was in the Music Education Group committee and taught a wide variety of music to primary school children, as well as adults in hospitals and care-homes.

I achieved an A in Music A-Level. I have ABRSM grade 8 in Piano, Flute and Singing (Dist) and a diploma (Dist) in Music theory from the University of West London.

I am currently working towards a diploma in Flute and Singing and I am pursuing a career in music education.

I am a friendly, patient, and professional Piano, Composition, Production, Music Theory, and DJ teacher from London, based in Cambridge. I have 12 years of teaching experience, and have taught pupils from 5 years old to 65!

I began composition lessons with Darren Bloom at Forest School, Snaresbrook, and was awarded a scholarship to the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, followed by a place at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where I completed an MMus in Composition in 2019. My previous tutors include Richard Ayres, Wim Henderickx, Richard Causton, Edwin Roxburgh, Ed Bennett, Joe Cutler, and Howard Skempton. I have also taken master classes from Rebecca Saunders, Mario Garuti, Anna Korsun, and Colin Matthews.

I was the winner of the Orchestre Nouvelle Generation Composers Competition 2016/17, and the Birmingham Conservatoire Orchestral Composition Prize 2015. Distinguished ensembles and performers who have performed my works include the DoelenKwartet, HERMESensemble, Syzygy Quartet, Ossian Ensemble, Noszferatu, Decibel, David Le Page, Patrick Johnson, Sara Minelli, Rowland Sutherland, and Colin Alexander. My compositions have been featured at world-famous festivals including the String Quartet Biennale Amsterdam and TROMP Percussion Festival and at venues such as Kings Place and Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ, as well as various venues throughout Europe, North America, and South Africa.

In addition to classical composition, I also write advert soundtracks on a regular basis for clients such as GHD, Lanvin, Japanese Vogue, Mariana Jungman (London Fashion Week), Cent Magazine, and Face Lace. I have completed a number of scores for award-winning short films 'Wanted' by Graeme Montgomery, and 'Genesis' by Beatrix Haxby.

I am also a bassoonist, having studied with Adam Mackenzie (New London Chamber Ensemble) and John Orford (London Sinfonietta). I was a member of Essex Youth Orchestra for four years, and have written a new repertoire for the instrument including a number of Concert Studies and also a Bassoon Quartet.

I am also an active DJ under the alias 'Delian Sound', playing eclectic sets from Garage to Jungle. I studied with international artists including Kasey Riot and Noah Priddle at the London Sound Academy and have performed in venues such as SET, Dalston alongside artists including Chiminyo and D’vo.

Tutoring Experience:
From 2009-2011 I taught Drumkit to students aged between 10-15 at a local Rock & Pop School. I've also been involved in a number of music courses for children between 2009-2014 as a Supervisor / Sound Technician.

In 2016 I began giving private lessons and built up a group of over 20 pupils ranging from 5-year-olds to adults through positive word-of-mouth. Between April-July 2017, I was contacted by a local primary school to give small group lessons in Piano and Guitar. Alongside my studies in Amsterdam, I continued to teach a similarly wide age range of pupils.

Since 2019 I have taught Composition & Musicianship at the Saffron Walden Centre for Young Musicians.

I have an Enhanced DBS check, available upon request.

Tutoring Approach:
My philosophy in Music Tuition is to improve the student's technique through exercises and pieces which they enjoy. I also provide general music education as I believe in a holistic approach, and increasing their passion for music which will increase their motivation for practice and improvement.

In addition to my busy playing career, I offer individual lessons on Saxophone, Clarinet and Flute, and in Music Theory in North Essex, East Hertfordshire, East London or online. I am also able to offer tutoring for GCSE and A-level Music and Music Technology courses for individuals or small groups.

My fundamental belief with regard to music education is that it should be a fun, enjoyable and rewarding experience. With this aim in mind, I strive to develop an approach tailored towards each student, taking account of their experience level, their personal musical goals and their own musical interests and tastes. I am equally at home teaching Jazz, Pop, Soul or the ever-expanding repertoire of classical saxophone music.

I have a wealth of experience in music education, teaching adults and young people in a wide variety of settings and contexts. In addition to having been an instrumental tutor since 1999: I have a Post Graduate Certificate in Education and have spent several years as a head of music in state secondary schools and at a 6th Form College; have taught and examined A-level courses in Music and Music Technology; have directed various ensembles within educational establishments and have devised and delivered workshops with a focus upon jazz and improvisation.

My students have a 100% pass rate in their ABRSM practical and theory exams, with many attaining Merit and Distinction passes (including at grade 8).

I have an advanced CRB check and am happy to provide testimonials upon request.
