May and June 2026: In this course, you will learn a range of linguistic methods and learn the terms used for describing a specific aspect of language or phenomenon (lexis, morphemes, and 'telegraphic stage' to give a few examples). The course requires you to explore your own data using quantitative and qualitative analysis (eg: how frequently are slang phrases used? Are there new auxiliaries being created?). No historical linguistics or literature is involved, but language change or specific traits will be sampled via your own data collection (if this is what is demanded in your course). As many students need to present a "year abroad" dissertation at University level (3rd year in the UK of a Modern Languages or Linguistics Undergraduate course) I can help you to research and structure your year abroad work, both in English (Linguistics) and Romance languages (French, Italian, Spanish). The topics that have arisen from recent discussions with students relate to French Caribbean writing, Italian resistance and reprisals in Rome (Fosse Ardiatine), and Spanish Etica franquista in films (among others). I have supported dissertation and thesis students from 2005, as well as granting informal help while I was a postgraduate student of Linguistics at UCL (this includes Institute of Education, 2000-2005). In essence, I can offer help because I have gone through this requirement myself (Aix-en-Provence for French BA, Berlin for Linguistics). Former students have requested this support for: Italian, French, Spanish and Linguistics & Phonetics. Outcomes: BA MFL students have progressed to an MA after their final year of study, or attained Firsts at Cambridge (and proceeded to a career in the City). As summers are now a challenge, and the dissertations need to be in by September (at least in England) I can help you with both your writing, research and oral exam. The year abroad really comes to an end in August, the worst time to be thinking about writing and research. I cannot change the weather but can make your path to a good degree smoother.

I teach primary school children from Year 2 upwards in Maths, English and in preparation for SATs in Year 6. My resources are all current and up to date and relevant in today’s National Curriculum specification. I have full access to the topics to be covered in each year group in Maths and am happy to mirror and match that which is being completed termly at school as well as focusing on more challenging topics. Each lesson will begin with Arithmetic questions for fluency. Reading comprehensions and grammar will be taught according to what is required for each year group and finally with a focus on spelling, punctuation and grammar practise papers as will be completed during SATs. I cover a variety of comprehension style questions that are inline with SATs and will cover all the skills required including word meaning, retrieval and inference questions across non fiction, fiction and poetry examples. I've completed my GCSEs a little over a year ago , I'm on here to fund myself in the future (primarily university) . I've averaged above an A (above grade 7) overall with recent experience and am still attending sixth form . Because of this I'll be able to easily relate to and figure out the needs of my tutee as I was in their position not too long ago . I myself studied based on topic rather than necessarily textbooks , this means that I can make due with any textbook or other material (this accounts for difference in exam boards). I can teach a concept from the ground up , or to solidify knowledge on topics as well as teach the basic principles for understanding the topic in the first place . I'm especially good at understanding and taking advantage of mark schemes to maximise grades , despite if the topic is completely unbeknownst to you . Though this seems minor , this tactic means you'll almost never score zero marks on a question . Ergo : if you can do half of the questions on a 100 mark test you'll get around 50 marks (high C to low B grade , grade 5 to 6) however even without understanding the rest it's easy to get at least another 15 marks up to around 25 (you usually cannot get over half marks without getting close to the answer , which is why half the remaining marks is a typical maximum) putting your grade up to to a minimum of a strong B or a maximum of a solid A (min of a grade 6 and max of grade 8) all of which requires minimal work which you won't forget . In English a similar thing can be done with punctuation , so long as you use a type of punctuation once ; you can score easy additional marks and get more marks on other criteria due to the examiner's bias . This is my forté .
