My name is Lucy and I live in West Sussex. I am fascinated by languages and communication and I have gained a wealth of experience in teaching and learning French, Spanish and English. In 2013 I achieved my Level 5 Trinity College London Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). I have have 8 years of classroom and private tutoring experience. My expertise is grammar: I am very skilled in this area having spent a lot of time studying. I have also gained plenty of experience in helping students with their speaking and listening skills. I am qualified to teach adults and teenagers, and have also gained experience in providing foreign primary school children with an introduction to the English language. In 2017 I graduated with a 2:1 in French and Hispanic studies. In my third year at University I studied and worked abroad in Paris and Madrid. In Paris I was the English teacher of a small private school and I was in charge of designing the curriculum, teaching all the lessons, and creating an end of term assessment. In Madrid I was self employed and privately tutored several students with lessons tailored to their requirements. For example, one student wanted to improve conversation skills for her job as she was required to communicate with clients in the UK, so we focused on business conversation skills in English. In June 2020 I will qualify as a Secondary Teacher of French and Spanish, teaching up to A level (Key Stage 5). I am currently on a SCITT PGCE course (School Centred Initial Teacher Training) which means I have been in the classroom since September gaining plenty of experience teaching the languages. Before beginning my ITT (Initial Teacher Training) year, I completed a 6 month Subject Knowledge Enhancer which involved studying the different modules of the GCSE and A level syllabuses and preparing a presentation on teaching each module to a class. This course has helped me understand exactly what is expected of the students during Key Stages 4 and 5 and I received excellent feedback on my achievements. If you are studying French, Spanish or English, I can help you to succeed! We will tailor my class and lessons to your individual needs. Whether you want to build confidence in speaking and communicating, or need some extra help with grammar/ written work, I can help. Please contact me for more information.

Learn to speak English like the English do. As a Dutch person, you are often quickly recognizable by your accent and incorrect use of words, expressions, etc. By speaking 'native English' you can often get something done faster, you are accepted faster and in the USA you often have an advantage if you speak 'Queen's English'. I have been living in the UK for 25 years and in the early years I experienced how difficult it is to really get through to the English if you do not speak the language at their level. You remain a 'foreigner' and therefore an outsider. As a Dutch person, you quickly think that you speak English well. The English that is taught in the Netherlands is outdated and is often taught by university graduates who have never spent more than a few months in an English-speaking environment, so they have never picked up the real spoken language. You don't really learn a language from a book, you have to experience it or learn it from someone who knows the finer points. I am a professional translator, a member of the NGTV, TEFL certified and have an international business background.
