I am a UCL Biological Sciences student seeking to offer a highly personalised tutoring experience that caters to my students' needs. I currently teach from Year 7 upwards with a speciality in exam preparation. I teach Geography, RS, Physics, and English from Years 7-11, and Mathematics, Biology, and Chemistry from Years 7-13. I aim to understand my tutees' unique concerns and explain concepts simply with many alternative approaches. As someone who has experienced obstacles to my own learning, I have a lot of empathy for students struggling with their learning, particularly those with learning differences and endeavour to develop an approach that works for them. I was a strong student in secondary school (Queen’s College, London) achieving A*s and As (and equivalents) at GCSE and three As at A-Level in Biology, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Particularly of note, I received a 9 in GCSE Mathematics, 98% in GCSE Religious Studies, and was awarded a sixth-form academic scholarship. I am an experienced tutor - I participated in a tutoring scheme in secondary school which allowed students from Year 7 to Year 12 to ask any questions they might be struggling with in any subject they wished. This allowed me to continue to engage with my GCSE content during my A-Level years and taught me how to listen to and understand the particular needs of each student at a given moment. I also tutored family and friends of family, allowing me to engage personally with my students and develop a specialised teaching approach. The plasma membrane: the protective envelope The plasma membrane is a semi-permeable barrier that delimits the cell and separates it from its environment. It consists of a double layer of phospholipids, in which various proteins are integrated. These proteins play a crucial role in the transport of substances across the membrane, cell communication and cell recognition. The cytoplasm: the internal environment The cytoplasm is the aqueous medium inside the cell. It contains many organelles, inclusions, and the cytosol. The cytosol is the liquid part of the cytoplasm, rich in enzymes and molecules necessary for the chemical reactions of the cell. The Core: The Control Center The nucleus is a characteristic organelle of eukaryotic cells. It contains the genetic information of the cell in the form of DNA, organized into chromosomes. The nucleus is surrounded by a nuclear envelope pierced by nuclear pores that allow the exchange of molecules between the nucleus and the cytoplasm. Organelles: specialized factories Organelles are specialized structures present in the cytoplasm. If not there is no worries as things can take a while to learn but by the end you will feel a lot less stress about what you may be learning in biology.
