Classical Drawing: The Serious Art Student's Guide to Drawing MasteryTranslate this text using Google Translate.

Classical Drawing: The Serious Art Student's Guide to Drawing MasteryTranslate this text using Google Translate.

Learn rigorous technique first, and THEN break the rules. As a classically trained artist in drawing and painting, I offer private tutoring that emphasizes mastering the fundamentals to develop accomplished, technically skilled artists who can confidently express their creativity. My approach is structured, rigorous, and designed to push students to achieve their best. While some may find my method strict, I believe in teaching the rules thoroughly so that you can confidently break them later. What I Offer: Foundational Skills: Strengthen your abilities in line work, value, proportion, perspective, and texture to build a robust technical base. Composition & Framing: Understand how to structure engaging artwork through thoughtful layout, balance, and spatial design. Rigorous Critique: Receive honest, constructive feedback to identify areas for growth and refine your individual hand. Unique Assignments with Clear Goals: Each project is tailored to address specific skills or concepts: contrast, scale, accuracy, perspective, and still life vs narrative-driven styles are just a few examples. Diverse Areas of Focus: Explore various disciplines, including: 2D design Still-life Architectural drawing Human anatomy and figure drawing Portrait drawing Illustration Media and Techniques: I guide students in mastering traditional drawing media, including graphite, charcoal, conte, pen and ink, and technical pens. Additionally, if the student progresses, I will offer opportunities to explore printmaking techniques such as silverpoint, etching, and linocut to expand their artistic repertoire. My Approach and Expectations: I teach with the belief that discipline and dedication are essential for artistic growth. My sessions combine hands-on demonstrations, guided practice, and critical discussions to ensure students gain a comprehensive understanding of both technical and conceptual aspects of drawing. While I set high expectations, I also offer the support and tools needed for students to rise to the challenge. After most sessions, I assign homework to be completed by the next class. I certainly expect my younger students especially to complete these assignments. While my lessons are technical and follow strict parameters, there is plenty of opportunity for students to choose their own subjects and designs. I also highly recommend my student take excellent notes during my demonstrations and instruction time. I will always share my own notes and sketch journals so the student has a goal in mind. After a section of tuition has been completed (equal to a half term) I examine the notes and give feedback. Who Can Benefit: Beginners aiming to establish strong technical foundations Intermediate students refining their composition and conceptual skills Advanced artists seeking rigorous critique and structured challenges Portfolio builders preparing for art schools or professional opportunities With a focus on both mastery and creativity, I help students develop the skills and confidence to create meaningful, rule-breaking artwork.

Develop Your Artistic Voice — Conceptual Art & Contemporary Art Mentoring.Translate this text using Google Translate.

How do you move from making individual artworks to developing a practice that feels genuinely your own? I am a professional visual artist with more than 30 years of international experience. In these individual mentoring sessions, I work with artists and creative people who want to develop a more personal artistic language, deepen their ideas, or reconnect with a practice that has become stuck or uncertain. Rather than teaching a particular style or giving you formulas to follow, we look closely at what already interests you: recurring images, materials, questions, experiences, contradictions and ways of thinking. From there, we explore how these elements can become part of a stronger and more individual body of work. Our sessions may involve discussion of your current work, experimentation, sketchbooks, writing, research, contemporary art and art history, as well as artists, writers and thinkers relevant to the questions emerging from your practice. We can work on questions such as: What makes your work yours? Which ideas are worth pursuing? How can you develop a concept without simply illustrating it? How can research become part of the work? How do you recognise and move beyond habits, imitation or creative blocks? This mentoring is suitable for people who want more than technical instruction and are interested in developing an independent, thoughtful and sustainable creative practice. Sessions are available in English or Portuguese and are shaped around each person's interests, work and creative process.

Justin is a true professional and is really gifted at helping job seekers in their career path. He assisted me a lot with career advice, job application adaptation and proofreading. He is really good at communication, reading between the lines, and highlighting the core idea. Our lessons or as I would rather call it a master class, were absolutely great and easy going. Thank you very much, Justin, for your amazing approach, custom-made professional and easy attitude, and a super international mindset. I would very much recommend it!

Extremely professional and knowledgeable with any problem that I have had. Reza is always polite, friendly and always shows great patience, which I believe is of the highest importance when learning difficult subjects. I highly recommend him as a teacher!

Arno is a skilled and patient teacher. He has a broad experience and knowledge. Grammer, words, synonym, pronounciation, etc. Furthermore can distinguish between brazilian Portuguese and Portuguese from Portugal. I can highly recommend him.
