This is a class for IB English HL - language and literature - covering paper 1 consisting of literary analysis. This class will include analysing different text types, their characteristics and authorial intent, along with the poems of Carol Ann Duffy (or the ones chosen by the school) and a required text of A streetcar named desire (or the text chosen by the school). If needed, I will also aid in the framing and preparation for the IO.

This class will provide students with the necessary analytical tools and principal knowledge they need to succeed in their English, History, or Social Studies classes, on both primary and secondary levels. Coming from a background of sociological research, I have both qualitative and quantitative methodological study methods that inform my tutoring strategies and increase student's general comprehension of key concepts. Beginning with teaching core principles from assigned textbooks and syllabi (of which I independently review and use to create individual and tailored lesson plans), I also provide students with critical thinking skills, grammar lessons, and essay writing tips to ensure that they reach their academic and intellectual potential. I am presently a master's student at LSE and have six years of tutoring and teaching experience in related disciplines, as well as experience working with students with varied learning and cognitive demands.

I achieved 9s at GCSE in Maths, English Language, and English Literature. I also took Maths and English at A-level, and achieved A*s. I have tutored GCSE students in these subjects in the past, and I taught English to students in Burkina Faso. I also currently volunteer with children aged 11-15 at a charity called the 'Ministry of Stories' to develop children's writing abilities. On a personal level, as someone who was relatively recently in senior school (I am in my early 20s), and with two younger brothers who are at GCSE and A-level respectively, I want to use my up-to-date knowledge of the education system to help young people do well! I adapt all lessons plans to the student’s individual needs. Upon first meeting a student/their parent, we discuss the aims they want to achieve within the number of agreed lessons; e.g. whether there is a particular topic they wish to focus on, or if they would like to practise the subject more broadly. I formulate a potential lesson plan which I email to the student/their parent. After receiving feedback and comments, we agree on a final plan together. This is the approach I used in past tutoring jobs, and I have found it to be very successful. Due to my past tutoring experience with GCSE students, I am familiar with the current GCSE curriculum for Maths and English, for the AQA, Edexcel, and OCR exam boards. I use a combination of textbooks, extra material issued by the exam board, and past papers to teach students. I mark all their work according to the marking criteria issued by the exam board. I am also happy to go over a student’s class notes with them, if they are struggling to understand what the teacher has said. According to the student/parent preferences, I can set homework, which I mark before lessons and explain to the student during the lesson. In my approach to Maths, I aim to ensure the student fully understands the rationale of each mathematical step, rather than merely memorising the solutions to answers without understanding the logic behind them. During English classes, I will discuss texts and practise exercises with students orally and mark their written work, Also, I use my own tasks to improve students’ writing and analysis. For example, if students are often getting ‘stuck’ when faced with a text for the first time, I practise a list of key ‘trigger questions’ with them. (For instance: what is your instinctive emotional response to this text? Are there any specific sentences you think trigger this reaction in you? From the list of classic techniques authors use, like similes, extended metaphors, hyperbole, and oxymorons, are any used here? What is their effect? Are any of the themes we have identified in the rest of the book here?) To improve the students' writing abilities, I use techniques like encouraging students to produce ‘essay plans’ for me during lessons. They bullet point their ideas within ten minutes, and then we mark them together. This improves students’ structure, as they can more easily see the overall cohesion of their argument than if they were to write it out in full. It also helps students practise thinking on their feet. These are just two examples of techniques I use. Like lesson plans, I adapt the technique to the student, depending on what works best for them.

I have experience singing jazz, pop and musical theatre and have completed one year on a Vocal Studies course at a Music Conservatoire. I have Grade VIII in Violin and Classical Voice, Grade VI in piano and Pop and Jazz Vocals and recently achieved a 1st for my final degree recital and composition. The techniques that you gain from classical training can be applied to all genres and give a strong foundation to be able to perform any music you may be interested in. I am a music, singing and drama teacher, based in London, with a BMus (Hons) from the Royal Northern College of Music. I have 12 years of teaching experience in 1-1 and group settings for ages 4 to 18, with a number of my students gaining West End success. I have taught a range of exam syllabuses and genres, including ABRSM, Trinity Rock & Pop Vocals and Classical Singing, LAMDA Musical Theatre, LAMDA Acting and LAMDA Verse & Prose. I am a Vocal Health First Aider, which means I have an understanding of vocal health and the factors that can affect vocal wellbeing.

The class would begin with a needs analysis, finding out the student’s level, problems (ie grammar/pronunciation/fluency/vocabulary) and also why they need help with their English(ie for work/study/travel). The class would then start work on whichever area the student”s language needs indicate. Correction and language rules would be incorporated in practice. The great majority of the class would be student practice in whatever type of English is needed.

As a recent History postgraduate, attaining a 2:1 degree at the University of Manchester I will pass on sizeable knowledge to prospective Historians. Largely focusing on Political and Social, with elements of Economic history, my teaching will generally mirror my specialties. I specialise in post 1960s Britain, particularly the 1980s, which was the topic for my 13,000 word dissertation. Similarly, I achieved first class and no lower than 2:1 grades in subjects spanning from the beginnings of the Islamic world in late antiquity, to the study of Ancient Greece through archaeological remains, to the industrial revolution and the formation of class in Britain, to the British colonialisation of India and Africa, to the Jim Crow south in the US, to the transnational community post ww2, to the theoretical nature of the memorialisation of WW2s events in eastern Europe. Though certain subjects I have delved even deeper into, my vast knowledge of a wide scope of historical eras and subjects, as well as my experience in History at russel group University level (2:1), A Level (A) and GCSE level (A) stages, allows me to tutor Historians of all ages and levels.

School, jobs, life... As a qualified teacher, I can say that having a language and getting a good mark in the GCSE for Spanish is easily achievable with a little bit of work and an open mind. My lessons are very flexible, focused on active learning. You only learn if you do, if you make mistakes. I do not like to talk hours not stop about grammar, or how Spanish derived from Latin... That is boring and useless, what I like is hearing you, and speaking with you. I have experience both working with adult and young adults. I work with the International House in London, as part of my certification as Spanish teacher for adults, teaching online a group of 10 to 15 adults online.
