I specialise in tutoring students in KS3 and GCSE level English Literature and Language. Usually, I help with content consolidation, revision techniques and exam practice! I believe in understanding English as a subject rather than tedious memorisation of quotation analysis and will set work accordingly, keeping in mind the child's workload so as not to overwhelm.

I have been an independent tutor for just over 6 years now. I recognise the strength behind developing my student's own academic interests and aim to kindle these interests by engaging them in a way that suits them. As well as bolstering my student's knowledge of their subject content, I develop students' time management and general exam technique, as these factors are vital in securing top grades. With excellent results, I fully exploit the potential of authentic materials (songs, short films, films, books, newspaper articles, literature) and drama techniques, which I had the opportunity to deeply research at the Institute of Education - University of London, and subsequently put into practice in the London schools for which I worked. My lessons are always student-centred, interactive, stimulating and related to real life, cultural situations and/or to exam requirements (GCSE, A-levels, International Baccalaureate, IELTS, TEFL, PLIDA, CELI), according to my students' needs. I have over 25 years of experience as a Spanish tutor. I had my school in Malaga, Spain, where I lived and worked as a Spanish as a second language teacher for the ex-pat community in Costa del Sol between 1996 and 2012. I helped lots of adults and children to settle in their new country, jobs, and schools. After relocating to London in 2013. I worked for different language schools. Currently, I do private tutoring of adults and all key stages, including GCSEs and A-levels students. I am familiar with the National Curriculum and the learning resources of AQA and Edexcel (both the local and the international versions). I have developed my own method to teach Spanish efficiently and enjoyably. My pronunciation of Spanish is noticeably clear.

My three main areas of expertise (not necessarily in this order): - Chess: I teach chess to beginners and intermediate players up to ELO 1800 or ECF 1700, working on the tactical and strategic aspects of openings, middle games and endgames.. "chess is life in miniature"! - Fitness / Running / Triathlon: I coach people who want to get fitter and generally incorporate any endurance activity into a health(ier) lifestyle. I am a dedicated coach who has competed in several marathons and Ironman races (also qualified for the Ironman World Championship). I focus on nutrition, stress and sleep as well for a holistic approach. - Languages: I specialize in tutoring Italian and Spanish; my style is to keep students challenged and motivated through simple classes and practical exercises (pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary).. I'm a demanding teacher but will guide you in a fun and interactive way.
