Music - Piano, Singing, Theory, Composition - Jazz, Classical, Rock & Pop

Music - Piano, Singing, Theory, Composition - Jazz, Classical, Rock & Pop

ABOUT ME: My name is Christian. I'm a professional musician, and have 10 years experience working as a music teacher. I teach Jazz, Classical, Rock and Pop, and Theory. Playing music just about the most fun thing a person can do and my goal is to bring that joy to my lessons. I attended King's College London, where I studied music, majoring in composition, and achieved a 1st Class (Hons) Degree. I have performed at some of London's most prestigious venues including The Royal Festival Hall, Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club, Toulouse Lautrec Jazz Club, Kansas Smitty's, Wilderness Festival, The Nightjar, The Ned London, and many more. TEACHING EXPERIENCE: I have been working as a private piano, singing teacher, and music tutor for 10 years, helping students achieve their personal goals, success with their ABRSM and Trinity instrumental exams, and their desired GCSE and A Level Results. I also worked as a peripatetic teacher in a secondary school (Bishop Thomas Grant School) for three years before deciding to make my teaching practice entirely private. While at the school I taught piano, I also tutored GCSE and A Level students through their exams. I also ran the school's jazz band throughout my tenure where I taught jazz, ensemble, and improvisational skills to students on many different instruments. ABOUT OUR LESSONS: In our lessons, I will work with you to come up with a teaching plan that will best suit you. I am very open to all musical styles so will make sure that the material we are covering is always the music you want to be learning! If you or your child would like to pursue grades with ABRSM or Trinity exam boards, you will be pleased to know that my students have had a 100% success rate, with many achieving merit or distinction. If you have any questions, feel free to get in touch!

Singing lessons with certified teacher. Improve breaks, range and power.

Singing lessons with certified teacher. Improve breaks, range and power.

Feeling like you're not using the full potential of your voice? I'm a certified voice teacher and I can help you with that. I am part of a worldwide voice community, The Institute for Vocal Advancement (IVA) and I am regularly receiving training and being tested to be the best singing teacher I can be for you. Some of the teachers in this community I am part of, teach big names of the music industry. I have learnt directly from them. That means that when we have a lesson, you will be getting the same training as stars like Brandon Flowers (The Killers), Seal, Dan Reynolds (Imagine Dragons), Barbara Streisand, Michael Jackson, Brendon Urie (Panic! at the disco) many broadway artists and singers from all possible music styles have learnt with. In our lessons I will analyze your voice, define a goal for the lesson and trace a plan to achieve that goal. Then we will do vocal exercises that work almost like going to the gym, but for the muscles inside your larynx. Finally we will go through song application, and since I am also a singer/songwriter with a career of more than 10 years, I can help you with interpretation and stylistic choices. I want to help you start loving all aspects of your own voice. Working with what you have and improving what you can improve, never forgetting the most important thing which is to enjoy the experience of singing. Nathaje

Violin, Piano and music theory lessons for all abilities!

Violin, Piano and music theory lessons for all abilities!

I have been playing the violin and piano for over 20 years now, graduating in 2015 from the Royal College of Music with a first-class bachelor's degree in violin performance, and have recently started an Advanced Diploma in Performance at the Royal Academy of Music. I have performed extensively all over the UK as a soloist, most notably as a strings finalist on BBC young musician of the year, and at the Battle Proms concert series to audiences of up to 12,000. I've also delved into the Folk world a little and was on tv for the BBC Radio 2 folk awards as part of Jim Moray's band! I started officially teaching at 17, coaching local teachers more advanced students. From there I became Professor Berent Korfker's private assistant at 18, teaching his younger students from the Purcell School and alike. Being able to work with such talented students was extremely inspiring and excited me to start my own class with complete beginners on both violin and piano. I now have a hugely mixed class in both ability and age (4 to over 50!) with a 100% pass rate in their exams. My approach has always depended on the student's age, ability, and character. For younger students, I incorporate games, with them often wondering how the lessons finished so quickly! I like to create a fun environment for musical development where questions are encouraged, and all students are taught how to teach themselves and apply techniques learned in the lesson to the practice room.

Teacher of saxophone performance, music theory (including harmony and counterpoint) and music composition

Teacher of saxophone performance, music theory (including harmony and counterpoint) and music composition

I have instructed students of different age groups in saxophone performance and music theory (including counterpoint, harmony and composition) up until university level, in Spain and the UK. After graduating from Cambridge with a double starred first, taking into consideration my academic results and teaching experience, I have also been selected for inclusion in the Supervisor Registry to teach counterpoint and harmony papers. My approach to lessons is very flexible, and I always try to adapt to the needs and qualities of each student. I believe that communication is essential, and at the beginning of each lesson I ask my students if they found my recommendations from the previous lesson helpful and how they see their progress. After this spoken introduction, we proceed to work on some warm-up and technical exercises. Then, we play some studies and pieces, or go over some music theory exercises, trying to apply the advice from the previous lesson and make further improvements. Finally, we conclude the lesson with a summary, listing the main key points and suggestions and comparing our experience to the previous lessons, trying to find a clear sense of progression and a coherent line of work towards a certain goal. This teleological mindset occupies a central position in my methodology, and I always encourage my students to look ahead and plan a series of stimulating events or challenges to look foward to, such as a concert, a recital, a presentation or an exam.
